This tour is a perfect getaway day trip, fulfilled with beautiful landscapes of western Serbia, and amazing mountain views. Also, you will have a unique chance to experience the famous Sargan Eight train, which will take you back to some romantic times. On top of all of that, we will visit the unordinary wooden town of Kustendorf, created by world-known movie director Emir Kusturica. Last but not least stop will be another interesting sight that intrigues people from all over the world- Drina river house.
On this tour, we forget about the busy city jungle and just enjoy the pure nature of Mokra Gora and its lush meadows and pine forests. An interesting train ride will ensure that you explore this mountainous area from a different angle, followed by many local stories. For complete pleasure, authentic cuisine with Serbian specialties will make you feel like a local.
We start early in the morning and we will pick you up from your accommodation at 8 a.m. and we drive straight to Mokra Gora. Drive is long (around 3 hours), but the beautiful landscapes of central and western Serbia and interesting stories from your guide will not make you feel that long. We will reach Mokra Gora town and from there you will board this nostalgic train ride. This train is specific because it runs down the narrow gauge railway, preserved from WWI. The track on this section is around 15 km long and passes through 22 tunnels overcoming an altitude difference of 300m. Through the lush nature of Mokra Gora (Park of Nature) and with several stops, this romantic train will make you fall in love with this part of Serbia.
The next stop is just a couple of minutes from the train station. On a hill above Mokra Gora is located in the famous wooden town of Kustendorf. It was created by movie director Emir Kusturica and represents a unique tourist village made in the traditional Zlatibor architectural style. Inspiration for making this town Emir got while he was filming his movie “Life is a miracle” in the Mokra Gora area. This charming place is a small town for itself and you will find everything in this tourist resort, from many shops with only local souvenirs, to several restaurants, a movie theater, hair salon, sports facilities, spa center... You might be surprised by street names in this town because those are named after famous people Kusturica admires: Nikola Tesla, Bruce Lee, Ernesto Che Guevara, Diego Armando Maradona, Federico Fellini, and Ingmar Bergman. Here is a great place to have a tasty lunch, surrounded by the pure nature of Mokra Gora and magnificent views.
The last attraction for the day is the famous Drina river house. After a drive through Tara National park, on our way back to Belgrade, we will take a break on a river bank, so you can enjoy this unusual sight. This is one of the most photographed objects, because this house stands on a rock, in the middle of a river which is also a natural border between Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of course, more stories about this site will be shared by your guide.
After a break and a photo session, we continue back to Belgrade, and you can expect some more intact nature along the way.
