Serbia

Serbia is located in the southeastern part of Europe, the Balkan Peninsula. It has an app. 6,9 million inhabitants and its capital, and the biggest city is Belgrade with 1,5 million. A relatively small country with 88 407 sq km, but enormous with its natural beauties and cultural heritage. A predominantly mountainous country with forests covering 27% of its territory in the central and southern areas, and the low-lying plains of Vojvodina in the north. Largely mountainous in the west and south, Serbia lies within several most significant mountain systems of the Balkans. The north of Serbia is part of the fertile Danube (2nd longest river in Europe) plain - Vojvodina, drained by the Danube, Sava, Tisa, and Morava rivers. Serbia is divided into 29 counties and the City of Belgrade. The counties are further divided into 108 municipalities.

It has a significant strategic position and it is an important link between central Europe and the Middle East. Through centuries many different cultures and civilizations left their inheritance. That’s why you will find remains of the Prehistoric period, Ancient Roman cities, Medieval Serbian fortresses and monasteries, Ottoman and Austrian architecture, and much more… Besides cultural heritage, it has much more to offer with its beautiful nature. Part of Serbia’s territory is part of protected natural parks. The five gorgeous national parks are home to very unique flora, crystal clear rivers, lakes and waterfalls, intriguing caves, and wild beauty that is characteristic of this charming land.
