From the Stone Ages to the present his majesty Danube River keeps the record of human civilization in this region. The priceless finding is the first urban settlement in Europe Lepenski Vir, the unique archeological site from the Stone Age. The heroic and proud guardian of the entrance to the Djerdap National Park (Iron gates of Danube) is surely Golubac Fortress- the medieval fortress built on uneven and inaccessible cliffs. The astonishing view from Kapetan Misin Breg at the valley, and vantage points within National Park in combination with a private boat ride will leave you speechless.
Be ready to embrace one of the most picturesque regions of Serbia that will leave you breathless. The abundant nature brought by the Danube River, the beating artery and the most important river of this region, with 9 millennia of human history and presence.
Your tour will commence in front of your accommodation in Belgrade at 9 AM. After two hours long drive the widest point of the Danube River is reached where the mighty Golubac Fortress holds the key to Djerdap National Park (The Iron gates). Strategically placed it was the battlefield of many battles with significance and importance for numerous warring sides, yet it was never conquered in a battle.
The next stop is a true archeological gem, the forefather of urban settlements of Europe- Lepenski Vir. Stories of civilization that lived in this region 9000 years ago will be revealed at the archaeological site preserved in its original form. Through the stories of religion, art, customs, anatomy, and everyday life you will be surprised by the level of knowledge and advancement achieved by its inhabitants.
It is lunchtime, so be prepared to dig in the mouthwatering, local, and homemade dishes seasoned with astonishing views of the valley from Captain Misa’s Hill (Kapetan Misin Breg). This hill was a perfect place for Captain Misa to overlook his lucrative salt and antlers trade.
After lunch, our tour will continue down the stream deeper into the National Park. This tour will be elevated to the next level by a private boat ride on the Danube River through a picturesque landscape. The private boat ride walks us through the history of human presence, ingenuity, and the importance of the Danube River for trade and communication. The first stop on this ride is a plaque (Tabula Traiana) that commemorates the completion of the bridge- the great achievement of engineering that gave the opportunity, to Roman Emperor Trajan, to expand his Empire and conquer Dacia. A paddle up the stream our next stop is the biggest stone sculpture in Europe dedicated to Emperor Trajan's adversary- Decebalus, the last king of Dacia. Here the Balloon Stations overcame the problem of navigation through the rough and narrow waters. These are unique examples of ingenuity, and approval that the simplest solution is the best to overcome the problem. After the private boat ride, we will depart for Belgrade. The drop off is in front of your accommodation.
