In Vojvodina, or Northern Serbia, diversity is everywhere, life flow is slow, and peace is a way of life. Its provincial capital, the warm and hospitable city of Novi Sad, together with the Petrovaradin fortress that tells stories of struggle, intrigue, and intelligence war between empires, keep the historical record of the importance of this region. Fruska Gora National Park with its secluded monasteries in linden forests used to be a spiritual and cultural center of Serbian people for many centuries. All the stories come together in Sremski Karlovci, a charming little town with its baroque and renaissance city center, and centuries-old wine cellars, producing exceptional wines.
Be ready to experience wine-making traditions spanning from Romans. Discover a spiritual sanctuary of Serbian people in the Habsburg monarchy, during the Ottoman rule in the Balkans. At the same time, you will have a chance to enjoy nature and taste homemade products; hear stories of the locals while enjoying a glass of wine. Expect a fulfilling day with a lot of different attractions.
Our tour starts from your accommodation, we will pick you up at 9 A.M. and continue straight to our first stop-Krušedol monastery. Once the beacon of light and hope, literacy, and culture for our people in the tough period of Ottoman rule in the Balkans. This historic 16th-century spiritual place was a cultural and religious center where Serbs preserved their identity and tradition.
In Fruška Gora mountain National park, 16 such convents still exist. Through orchards and vineyards, passing by the biggest linden forest in Europe-home of different endangered species, we continue our tour to Sremski Karlovci.
This unique baroque town was a cultural and spiritual hub for all intellectual Serbian people in the Habsburg Empire and tells stories of great importance. Find out why the “Treaty of Karlowitz” changed the principles of world diplomacy. Finally, we will head to the town center and visit its sites and one of the family wineries. Throughout history, famous wines of Karlovci, such as Ausbruh and Bermet, were drunk in high courts of Europe, on transatlantic ships, and at local feasts.
Petrovaradin, once an independent fortified city, used to be the most futuristic and grandiose fortress of its time, strategically positioned on a steep hilltop, overlooking the city of Novi Sad. Even now, its ramparts and labyrinth of walls and tunnels look impressive while ramparts and dungeons serve as art galleries and ateliers. Every summer it becomes the venue of the world-famous EXIT festival. The top plateau, known for its famous „drunken clock“ tower is a perfect place to observe the Novi Sad center, which lies just across the river.
The abundance of different cultures and religions mixed together in harmony can be felt throughout the streets of the refined, easygoing, and colorful city of Novi Sad. There will be enough free time to explore this charming city on your own.
After an hour-long drive, our tour will end, and you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
